The celebration of the Quinceanera (fifteen years) is an opportunity for young women to express their gratitude to God for the gift of life and dedicate themselves once again to following in the footsteps of Jesus in the company of Mary. For the priests, deacons and other lay ministers who will preside over the religious rite at this celebration of their fifteenth year, it is a great opportunity to evangelize the youth and support them on their journey of faith. The religious aspect of this celebration can be expressed through a formal blessing, a prayer service, or a speacial Mass; these can be done individually or in a group. The decision to offer one or several forms is the decision of the priest.
For the celebration of Quinceaneras:
The young woman must be baptized and have made her First Communion.
The young woman must be enrolled in a religious education program preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation or be Confirmed.
The young woman and the family need to make an appointment with their parish priest or delegate and set aside the date in advance.
It is recommended that the young woman participate in a preparation program. Other people who are going to participate in the fifteenth-year ceremony can be invited to join her in the preparation program.
The young woman must be in a state of grace on the day of the celebration of fifteenth birthday (must go to confession before the celebration) to be a able to participate fully in the Eucharist.
